Chris McNulty’s seventh release, Eternal (Palmetto Records), finds her in collaboration with gifted orchestrator, Stephen Newcomb and pianist-arranger, John Di Martino. The result is an exquisite melding of chamber ensemble and jazz quintet. Eternal will be available March 24th, 2015.

Vocalist Chris McNulty claims that she never sings a song unless she can connect with it personally and make it truly her own. The selection of repertoire for her seventh CD, Eternal, carried an even more deeply personal requirement, however: celebrating the life of McNulty’s cherished son Sam, who passed away in 2011. On first listening, it’s clear that this recording project will speak to listeners outside the mainstream jazz realm. That’s not to say certain aspects and soloistic choices don’t speak with a jazz voice – there’s plenty of that here. This is Leigh Carriage’s first writing and collaborative outing. Considering this entire project was put together in less than 6 weeks, all while juggling a full time teaching position at Southern Cross University where Carriage is vocal director, this album has an almost seamless flow and ethereal quality to it.
